The What & Why of Nutrition Coaching

When one wants to learn a new skill or improve existing skills, what does one do?

They seek out a coach.

Nutrition is no different.  Why would it be?

It is so important to one’s overall well-being that it only makes sense to make it a top priority, yet it is often the first thing to be overlooked or put on the back burner.

Why is that?

It’s hard.  Plain and simple, it is hard.

Food offers comfort, it’s a social activity, poor choices are convenient, and it is always accessible, and besides, long-established habits are very difficult to break.

Ever heard the phrase, “you are what you eat”?

Well, as elementary as it sounds, there is a lot of truth to it.

Putting good, clean, nutrient-rich foods in your body allows you to feel good, be strong, and stay healthy.

Don’t you want to feel good?  Don’t you want to look good?

Well, then you have to eat good foods for your body.

Power comes from within, and power begins within by finding the “diet” that is right for YOU.

Now, when I use the term “diet”, I am referring to the choices of food you make to sustain energy and fuel your body.  I am not referring to a “quick fix”, short-lived, difficult to maintain nutrition plan that is not beneficial to your long-term health and goals.  Instead I use the term diet as defined by Merriam-Webster, “the kinds of food that a person, animal, or community habitually eats.”

So what do I consider a nutrition coach?

Just as you would seek the guidance/assistance of a coach to learn a new sport or skill, a nutrition coach guides you in learning the skill of making the right choices of food and eating that best suits your body’s needs.

A coach also analyzes their student’s current abilities and compares them to their goals, they then set a plan/strategy for how to achieve those goals, and make alterations to those plans as needed.

That is what I will do for you.

There is no such thing as a “one size fits all” nutrition plan.

Everyone is so completely unique that it only makes sense that it also be true for your dietary needs.  Variations within age, body-type, goals, health concerns, etc. can make finding the right fit for you a challenge, and that is why a nutrition coach can be so helpful, and sometimes downright necessary.

Oh, and did I mention the most challenging piece of starting and/or maintaining a new plan?

Accountability.

How many times have you started something and just didn’t follow it through?  Now how many of those times were you only accountable to yourself?  It is so much easier to excuse away failures when you’re the only one that knew the original goal, or you were the only one that knew of the plan you had for yourself, but when someone else is expecting results from you and is guiding you through the process, there is an added motivation to staying on track.

Why choose Darrell Lutz Nutrition as your coach?

Darrell Lutz Nutrition is a nutrition coaching service for anyone wanting to improve their physical performance, physique, and/or overall wellness.

In addition to helping countless numbers of clients combine their nutritional goals with their fitness goals, I am also someone that has had years of self-experimentation with both diet and exercise to find what works for me.  Over the years, as my goals have changed, I have tried numerous routes of trying to gain weight, lose weight, eat for performance, etc.

I have the understanding of what works, because I too, have been there.

What does this service provide?

Now as I mentioned before, there is no one size fits all system, so just because one thing works for me, doesn’t necessarily mean that it will work for you and that’s where the data will come into play.

I will help you get on track to eating the right foods for you that will allow you to meet your nutritional goals.

We will work out for you which types of foods to eat, the correct amounts, and possibly even your right balance of macro and micronutrients.

And as any good coach would do, I will also keep you accountable by offering weekly check-ins, so that we can review and discuss your progress.

These check-ins will also allow us to alter the plan as we go, if necessary since this process is fluid and specific to you.

Here’s more about me:  (in case you’re wondering)

I have been in the health and fitness industry for the last 20 years and have trained athletes of all levels from high school, college, professional, to Olympians.

I have also worked with a variety of people not working at a sport, but instead at just varying levels of fitness such as the “average Joe” wanting to stay healthy, to the weekend warrior to the avid dirt bike rider.

And through it all, I have seen many people make great strides, yet they are left wanting more from their current programs because they can feel the gaps within the big picture of overall health.

Many times I have engaged in conversation with athletes as their personal trainer or coach regarding their frustrations, and more times than not, those frustrations lead back to their nutritional choices and habits.

Over the years I have witnessed a definite theme to be that most of the time a person dissatisfied with their results, or lack thereof, in regards to their fitness abilities, also are not recognizing the value of nutrition and sleep in one’s overall performance.

So often a person wanting to get stronger is not eating enough or the right foods, the person wanting to lose weight is cutting out the wrong foods and not nourishing their body the way they need, and the person wanting to improve their performance is not supplying themselves with the foods that will sustain their energy.

All of these occasions led me to this service.

I want to help YOU.

I have worked with all different types of people regarding their nutritional needs, and the strides in their progress is astounding!

So now it is YOUR turn.

Helping others with the full picture that is necessary to achieve their goals has been very rewarding and I want to continue to offer this type of support to people.

I want to be the reason people wanting to make improvements to their overall lifestyle can finally achieve the results they’ve always desired by providing the information they’ve needed to succeed.

Balance is the key to success and sometimes the answers as to how to achieve that are hard to see through the daily routines of life, so that’s where I come in.

I will help you identify your own individualized nutritional needs and get you on a plan that will help take the struggle out of what works best for you.
